RELATIVE VISA
A Relative’s Visa may be issued by the Department of Home Affairs to a foreigner who is a member of the immediate family of a citizen or a resident, provided that such citizen or resident provides the prescribed financial assurances.
This only applies to first level of kinship i.e.: Brother, Sister, Mother, Father.
The period of validity of the visa is determined by the financial assurance provided, but will not exceed a period of 24 months at a time. A relative visa issued to a spouse lapses upon the dissolution of the spousal relationship and the Department Of Home Affairs may at any time satisfy itself that a good faith spousal relationship exists and or continues to exist.
This visa is valid for a two-year period and, while it is renewable, failure to do so timeously will see the bearer of this visa being deported and banned from re-entry into the country for up to five years.
- The applicant must be able to prove their relationship with the South African citizen or permanent resident
- The applicant’s family will have to provide sufficient proof that they are able to support the applicant financially.
- Holders of this visa may not engage in business or employment until they have been granted permanent residency on application.
